We have been hearing more and more benefits that can be gained by drinking green tea, or taking a green tea supplement. Did you know that, in addition to all the other health benefits, many people are taking green tea to lose weight? 


Green Tea: A Natural Fat Burner

As you probably know, many diet supplements contain caffeine. That’s because caffeine is a powerful stimulant, which gives you energy and also helps you to burn fat. Green tea has some caffeine, but much less than coffee. It has, however, other, even more valuable (and healthier) properties that allow you to burn fat more efficiently.


 Green tea has powerful antioxidants called catechins, and one in particular, called EGCG, which has many amazing properties. In addition to protecting the body from many kinds of cancer and helping to regulate cholesterol, EGCG helps the body to burn fat. This, more than the caffeine content, makes green tea an effective diet aid.


Switching to Green Tea

Most people take some kind of stimulant, whether it be coffee, soda or energy drinks. Why not simply switch to green tea? It will give you a boost, but not the nervous energy or jitters that coffee often produces. And it doesn’t have the sugar (unless you add it!) and artificial ingredients that soda and energy drinks are full of.


With green tea you can get the fat burning help, along with all of the other health benefits without the negative side effects of other stimulants. If you are especially sensitive to caffeine, or are avoiding it for one reason or another, you can get decaffeinated green tea.


Green Tea and A Healthy Lifestyle

Of course, when you take green tea to lose weight you should also eat a healthy diet and get regular exercise. There is no supplement, including green tea, that can simply make you lose weight all by itself. Any supplement you take to help you lose weight can only stimulate your metabolism and make the body run more smoothly. But to actually burn fat requires you to exercise. 


Eating a healthy diet, with moderate intake of calories is also essential if you want to lose weight. A good rule is, if, like many people today, mainly eat foods that are high in carbohydrates and protein, switch over to more vegetables and fruits. Do this with each meal. That, along with regular exercise and a few cups of green tea should help you to lose weight safely.
